  • Ag in the Classroom

    Chair: Puala Karlock

    Ag in the Classroom teaches our local students about agriculture in Illinois and Kankakee County. This committee guides the coordinator, helps any community ag in the classroom activities, and more.

  • Governmental Affairs and Marketing

    Chairman: Clay Abbott

    Dedicated to advocating for agricultural interests by engaging with local, state, and national policymakers. The committee monitors legislative and regulatory developments, organizes grassroots efforts, and educates members about key policy issues affecting the farming community. In addition, it supports marketing initiatives that promote local agriculture and enhance public awareness of the importance of farming to the regional economy.

Young Leaders

A group of individuals aged 18 to 35 who are passionate about agriculture and committed to developing leadership skills, engaging in community service, and promoting agricultural literacy throughout Kankakee County.

Key Programs and Activities

  • Agricultural Industry Tours: Each year, the committee organizes tours of local agricultural businesses to provide members with insights into different facets of the industry.

  • Community Engagement: The Young Leaders actively participate in community events, such as the annual "Kids Day at the Farm," which educates fourth-grade students about agriculture through hands-on activities.

  • Leadership Development: Members are encouraged to attend state-level events like the Illinois Farm Bureau Young Leader Conference, which offers workshops and networking opportunities to enhance leadership skills.

  • Competitions and Recognition: The committee supports members in participating in competitions such as the Young Leader Achievement Award and Excellence in Agriculture Award. Notably, Clay and Alyssa Abbott from Kankakee County earned recognition in the 2023 Young Leader Achievement Award competition.

  • Monthly Meetings: Regular meetings are held to plan activities, discuss agricultural issues, and foster camaraderie among members.
